Carbon neutrality has been a common goal for all humankind as stated in the Paris Agreement. In September 2020, China pledged that it will strive to achieve carbon peak before 2030 and realize carbon neutrality before 2060, and since then, around 140 nations have announced their carbon neutrality goals.

In response to the global call for carbon neutrality and China's commitment to attain its objectives, the Institute of Carbon Neutrality at Peking University was established on September 6th, 2022.

Our Institute aims to provide interdisciplinary and synergetic solutions for China’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality. We also function as a world-class think tank and international academic exchange cooperation platform for carbon neutrality. Through our research and collaborations, we seek to contribute to global efforts towards a more sustainable future and a cleaner, greener planet.
