The institute carries out scientific research and talent cultivation in a way that combines full-time and part-time teachers from relevant departments of the school.

At present, the institute has 93 double-appointed teachers, bringing together outstanding teachers from 21 departments and research institutes, such as the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, the School of Physics, the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, the Energy Research Institute, the School of Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, the School of Life Sciences, the School of Modern Agriculture,the School of Public Health, the School of Economics, the Guanghua School of Management, the National Development Research Institute, the New Structural Economics Research Institute, the Department of History, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Sociology, the School of International Relations, the Law School, the School of Marxism, and the School of Government Management, etc. The disciplines are complete and the talents are abundant. Among them, there are 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 18 recipients of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young, 13 Changjiang distinguished professors appointed by the Ministry of Education, 9 Peking University Bohai Distinguished Professors, and 26 National-level outstanding young talents.
